Biography
Audrey B. Miklius, MD, FACE – Biography
Dr. Audrey B. Miklius is a board-certified clinical endocrinologist who specializes in endocrine, diabetes and metabolism disorders. She is also board-certified in Obesity Medicine. Although she sees patients with all types of endocrine disorders her main passion is to help people with chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity make changes in their behavior and lifestyle to improve quality of life and increase longevity. But change is hard; we ALL have resistance to change and ambivalence about making changes that rationally we know we should make for our health. Most people who smoke, eat too much, drink too much, or exercise too little are well aware of the downside of their behavior. Most people with diabetes know the dire consequences that may occur due to poorly controlled glucose.
Clearly knowledge of consequences is not enough, otherwise, we would all be in great shape! Dr. Audrey B. Miklius strives to have collaborative non-shaming conversations to strengthen a person’s own motivation and commitment to change; to help find the right medication regimen and promote lifestyle and behavioral changes to reach not only medical goals (such as glucose results) but also to be consistent with the patient’s values and interests. She loves using new technology such as continuous glucose sensors and pumps to help improve results and quality of life for patients with diabetes.
Dr. Miklius grew up in Hawaii. She is married to Jon Graff, a research scientist at UT Southwestern. They have two grown sons, Jacob and Matt, of whom they are inordinately proud. Her main hobbies are quilting and reading.
