Diabetes Care and Education Specialists
A Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) is someone with specialized training and certification in the care of patients with Diabetes. Eligibility requires the appropriate undergraduate certification, 2 years of caring for Diabetic patients and passing an exam. Once certified by The National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators, completing annual continuing education credits is part of the life-long learning requirement. Nicole Cunningham, MS, RD, CDE
Nicole Cunningham is Certified in Diabetes Education by the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators. She is a Registered Dietitian with a Masters’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Arkansas. She enjoys translating the science of nutrition into the art of great eating! Nicole provides education and counseling to people with Type 1 DM, Type 2 DM, Gestational Diabetes, Pre Diabetes, and weight loss. Patients benefit from her having more than 25 years of experience!
Nicole is certified as an Insulin Pump Trainer. She is certified in Medtronic, Omnipod, and Tandem pumps. As an expert in the field of Diabetes, she works with a team of providers at Endocrine Associates of Dallas to help provide all aspects of Diabetes education and care. She works with patients in the management of their diabetes, using the latest technology to help them achieve optimal blood glucose control. Her passion is to empower patients to have control over their diabetes. She also is adept with current continuous glucose monitoring systems: Medtronic, Dexcom and Libre.
Nicole enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 children, and 2 dogs. She moved to Dallas after living in Charlotte, North Carolina for 20 years. She enjoys traveling, exercise (especially yoga), and gardening.
David Rihn, MS, RD, LD
David Rihn is a registered dietitian nutritionist with a Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Metabolism from Boston University School of Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin. Before joining Endocrine Associates of Dallas, David worked for UCLA Health Sports Performance in Los Angeles and in various clinical and community settings. These opportunities allowed him to serve diverse populations which included children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, collegiate and elite athletes, as well as families of children with Type 2 Diabetes.
David is passionate to provide patients with a new perspective on diabetes self-management. He combines medical with technological treatment options along with lifestyle and behavior changes to achieve optimal blood glucose. His goal is to make recommendations that improve the quality and enjoyment of life. David enjoys working with a diverse population of patients from various backgrounds and lifestyles. Educational programs are tailored to the needs of the patient at both the individual and community levels.
In his spare time, David enjoys teaching group fitness classes such as strength training, yoga, and Pilates. He has been a certified instructor since 2018 and continues to challenge himself by practicing Ashtanga yoga. Growing up in the Austin and Dallas areas, David relishes the time he has to spend time with family and friends. He also enjoys the adventure of traveling to new places.
